Every once in a while, life presents an unexpected challenge that requires you to stay in faith; that all things are meant for some greater good, perhaps not seen immediately, but non the less for the “Greater Good.”

Until we are able to put ourselves beyond our comfort zone, we will not realize we have what it takes to make a difference in our life and in others as well.

At 13 years old, Melinda Marchiano began feeling ill. No one took her seriously except her mom Lee. Together they started on a journey that eventually tested their faith, while strengthening their love for one another when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in December 2007.

Now cancer free Melinda had written a memoir titled, Grace – a child’s intimate journey through cancer and recovery which recently won the 2010 International Book Award, to help inspire others.

Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday June 29th from 10-11am CST US to join Melinda, her mom Lee, and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

I remember my mom Progressive and Spiritual mom Elsa Mae, telling me years ago that when reading a fortune cookie you should always read to learn, and not read to rebuff. She went on to explain that our mood or present circumstance has a lot to do with our final take on the fortune we receive. It is true that the cookies are factory made, and the fortune messages are generated by a computer and put into the cookies by machines; however, we receive our cookies by random selection, which means there is a touch of the unknown involved that could be a little mystifying.

Ordinary folks like us, just wonder if sometimes the fortune we receive is truly meant to be a reflection of the past, a snapshot of the present, or perhaps a preview of the future. Regardless of which one it is, one thing for sure is that it is meant to be a pick-me-up, perhaps thought-provoking, and a fun after-meal conversation piece.

I can only speak for myself when I say this—regardless of how I am feeling at any given moment I can always use a little good news to brighten and enhance my day. I once received a fortune cookie that read, “Genius does what it must, and Talent does what it can.”

This phrase reminded me of what my mom Malaysian mom Nyah, told me when I first started working. She said, “In every one of us there is a seed of greatness. This seed of greatness holds the key to our successes. The Genius in us helps us to identify our goals, dreams, and desires, and the Talent in us helps us to accomplish them with a heartfelt passion.”

However, just because we have this seed of greatness, does not guarantee us greatness and success. It is what we do with it that will ultimately determine our success. This means that we can all live a perfect life if we choose to, and if we apply ourselves by using the knowledge that we learn from within, and from the lessons we learn along our lives’ journeys, we can certainly achieve our desired success.

This past Sunday was a very special day for me. I had the opportunity to take my godmother Ann to CAVA Restaurant, one of the newest and nicest restaurant in Dallas to eat seafood paella for lunch.

The husband and wife owners Xavier Miro and Catalina Ocampo, were exceptionally friendly and very professional, which makes the dining experience much more enjoyable. Xavier, the chef, made the paella specially for us because the restaurant does not serve this dish for lunch on Sundays.

I had to call a couple of days in advance to request this dish when I made the reservation because I wanted this early mother’s day celebration to be a wonderful experience for my godmother.

Located at 5934 Royal Lane, in Dallas, CAVA Restaurant is tugged away in a charming way in the Preston Royal Shopping Center. The owners are from Spain, and the food is authentically Spanish. The decor of the restaurant is elegantly simple with plenty of warmth and a nice touch of family energy.

If you live in Dallas, or will be in the DFW area, and are looking to eat some authentic Spanish cuisine, please give CAVA restaurant a try. I believe you will not be disappointed, and by the way, do tell Xavier and Catalina that Johnny Tan, Talk Show Host of From My Mama’s Kitchen Talk Radio Show (FMMK Talk Radio) referred you to their great restaurant.

Have a great day and Bon Appetit! :)

Johnny
